Q: Automotive industry?
Who works in the auto industry? I’m looking at getting a job as an automotive tech… Where do you work? How much do you get paid? Do you like your job? Did you get a degree from college? and what would you recommend to some one thinking about getting into the field. Thank you.
…… yeah….. I know what am automotive tech does….. that wasn’t my question
A: i’ve been an automotive tech for 13 years, i’m right now working on almost exclusively hummers. as the industry is going right now business is pretty slow and most places pay you by the job, so if you do nothing you get paid nothing, unlike an hourly job. Th flip side of that is some things that only take a few minutes may pay an hour or so, so that can be good. right now i make close to $25 an hour. the drawback to this field is you have to own your own tools, and tools are expensive, i have probably $40,000 invested in tools and there are still things i don’t have or need and it’s always changing. personally from the direction i see the industry going and with gas prices going up, i wouldn’t recomend getting into the field, find something else to do, however, if you really want to get into it, get into a good program like GM ASEP or earn your degree at the community college, stay away from high priced tech schools, You’ll learn more with experience. the biggest thing i can tell you is read!!!! magazines, service manuals, textbooks, absorb any information you can and know where to find out what you need to know and don’t know, and buy tools, i mean snap on, or matco, craftsman is good too to start out with. lemme know if there’s any way i can help you
Q: What is the best carrer in the automotive industry?
I am a female sophmore in highschool and I have found a lot of intrest in the automotive industry. I love working with my hands and building things and I would love to learn how to work on cars. What is the best carrer to pursue in the automotive industry? I want to get into the best paying field there is. Any ideas?
A: It is definitely marketing or sales , as long as you have the skill of communication, with your knowledge of the cars, you can convince the buyers to buy the cars and you can get good commission for that plus your monthly salary..
Q: What type of majors can I do to get into the automotive industry?
What colleges offer automotive industry majors?
I don’t want to go to school for just Design, nor Mechanic schools. Is there a school that has a mix of everything?
A: How about automotive engineering? I know Clemson has a good program in it; I’m not sure where else does.
Q: Is there a way NASCAR could contribute to the American automotive industry?
NASCAR wouldn’t be around if it wasn’t for the American auto industry. NASCAR has also set so many rules and made so many regulations, that they’ve squeezed themselves into a tiny little box. It’s definitely not like it used to be. Of course over a period of time, we change. But now that our auto industries are suffering, could you think of any way that NASCAR could change, that would actually “give back” to the American automotive industry, or promote their re-growth into our faltered economy.
A: NASCAR could do more to promote the brands. The cars have been custom built race cars for decades but they had differences between models that were still easy to see. The COT is truly identical no matter what the stickers say. They could find a way to make them more distinctive.
Q: Why did President-elect Obama made a point of saying how important a healthy automotive industry is last week?
During his first news conference last week, President-elect Obama made a point of saying how important a healthy automotive industry is to the economy.
A: Payback to the Unions who partly bankrolled his campaign along with George Soros.
Q: Any online articles about the automotive industry in India?
I am doing a work about the automotive industry in India. I have do an overall presentation, nothing particulary specific. Would you know some reliable online source that could help me?
A: Search the internet refining your search to India
Q: Where could I find a article on Quality control and how it applies to the automotive industry or similar?
I need a full text article on Quality control, control charts, sampling, etc (Industrial Engineering) and how it is used or examples of new types in the automotive industry, racing, cars, truck, or any similar related field. A current (2008-2009) Article would be preferred from anywhere between 2 to 30+ pages long. Thanks!
A: Check magazines from:
Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG)
many other engineering groups as SME, SAE, etc
Other words to search besides “quality”:
Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Measurement System Analysis (MSA) – these five are called the Core Tools in Automotive
Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Toyota Production System (TPS), Quality Operating System (QOS), ISO/TS 16949 (older articles would use QS-9000)
Q: I have a lot of experience in the automotive industry if it is good to buy old crappy cars and fix profit?
I have a lot of experience in the automotive industry (basicly fully fixing and customizing with a little help) and was thinking to start buying old rusty (maybe classic) cars for like $500-$6000 and put like $15000 into it and fully fix it up what do you think the profit will be?
I have alot of people who are coming in and asking if i do that and was asking if that would be good to start
$1000 to $15000 depending on the custumer and the car
I have my own shop that has everything you need or want for a car
I have my own shop that has everything you need or want for a car
A: i own a repair shop, and i do this a lot,the profit is good if you pick the kind of cars that will sell, right now the market for some of the older cars is not as good as it should be,and the cars that are selling the best right now are some of the older ones ,but I’m not talking classics, just cars that are 10-15 years old in really good shape, some of the older ones actually got better mileage than a lot of the newer ones now do,for instance i own a 87 Nissan sports coupe that gets 44 miles to the gallon, and it does it cold or hot weather ,it don’t matter, and a lot of the older ones got good mileage, but right now the profit on older classic cars is down a lot,so you may have to sit on anything once it is repaired and ready to sell, there is a saying, there is a buyer for everything, this is true, but how long you wait can hurt your profit, the longer you keep a car the less you will make on it,i sold around 40 cars last year,so far this year around 8 so far,and the only ones right now i can make any money one are the ones that are cheap to drive, and look really good,we also have a paint shop,so we are able to make them look good also, but after all is said and done, the profit per car may not be no more than 1000-1500 bucks per car,not much but it adds up,so be careful of what you buy, only buy what you know will sell, this way you can keep them moving, good luck i hope this helps.
Q: What is the size of the American automotive industry?
I wanted to know how large is the whole American automotive industry.
A: bigger than a bread box
Q: Does the automotive industry realize it is begging for forced servitude from the government?
The automotive industries are currently begging for a government bail out, that is equivalent to begging someone to enslave you. Don’t they realize they will be indebted so severely to the government that any type of profits they get from them will be so highly regulated as to cut down on production regardless? Do they not read up on “conspiracy theories” or the popularly quoted sayings of the founding fathers, to paraphrase: people love servitude, not only that but they beg for it.
What a bunch of idiots.
A: They realize what they’re giving up, but they would rather give up some degree of autonomy rather than declare bankruptcy; bankruptcy would spell the doom of many executives, investors, and the almighty worker unions. Although the existing corporate fat cats would suffer, I’m sure other companies would eventually pick up the pieces and rebuild the auto industry. In the end, we’d all be better off. It’s too bad politicians can’t see the long term problems with bailing out a lemon corporation. The best solution, IMHO, would be for the government to allow the rotten companies to fall apart, and then oversee and possibly subsidize the buyout by other, more responsible companies. The main goal of this oversight would be to ensure that all the existing jobs stay in America, so that we don’t end up with our auto industry shipped overseas.
Q: I’m trying to find information on Performance Management in the Automotive industry?

A: Well if you would like I could talk to you about that but first I would need to know what aspect of Performance Management you are talking about??? Of the employee’s or of the finished goods???

Also, I love to drive and I think it would be awesome to work with the development of new models…
Thanks!
A: You need to be more specific. Do you like to repair cars? Become a mechanic.
Or do you like to interact with people about cars. Then selling cars would be better for you.
Or do you want to design cars? If so you need to go to either Kettering University or Georgia Tech so you can become an SAE member.
